Once the old bottle store beside the hotel, this historic space has been lovingly transformed into a serene hideaway filled with soft light, elegant vintage pieces, and cozy character.

And if you happen to catch the faint scent of spirits... don’t worry, it’s probably just a whiff of liquor not to be confused with the departed.

Inspired by the famous literary circle at Oxford — C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield, and Charles Williams — this room is our tribute to writers, dreamers, and lovers of stories.

Portraits of Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, and the Brontë sisters line the walls, creating a cosy, bookish atmosphere with vintage wooden floors underfoot. It’s a space made for anyone who finds comfort in old books and ink-stained ideas.

Step into our enchanted chamber, affectionately known as Loth Lórien — our very own fairy-touched hideaway. Once the old ladies’ bathroom (one of only two in the historic hotel!), it has since been transformed into a soft, ethereal en-suite hotel room filled with charm.

The star of the room is the four-poster bed, draped in gauzy white fabric that catches the light and creates a dreamy, woodland atmosphere. Wooden floors and vintage details complete the space, making it feel like a quiet glade tucked far from the world — perfect for lovers of magic, myth, and a touch of elvish elegance.

Inspired by the haunting beauty of Tintern Abbey on the Welsh border, this room holds a quiet, old-world charm of its own. Its walls were allegedly decorated by Frederick Ganal — an itinerant artist known for travelling between country hotels and painting in exchange for room and board. One of his works still hangs in our Stradivarius Bar today.

During renovations, we left one wall partially exposed to reveal Ganal’s original technique — a little window into the hotel’s past. With its wooden floors, warm vintage textures, and an en-suite bathroom that once served as the gentleman’s washroom of the old hotel, this room blends history and comfort in a way that feels unmistakably Val.

Soft, serene, and beautifully simple, this little room feels like a breath of calm. Painted in gentle blue with floral touches throughout, it has a cozy vintage charm that makes it a favourite for quiet weekends away. Above the bed hangs a wreath of hydrangeas — a small, sweet detail that sets the tone for the whole space.

Though not en suite, the room features a thoughtfully designed private bathroom area tucked behind a decorative divider, offering comfort and privacy while keeping the room’s quaint and airy feel.

A warm and cosy space, Room 7 blends earthy comfort with subtle Eastern charm. The room features a cosy palette reminiscent of spice markets and gentle desert sunsets

This room features a semi-open bathroom with a room divider—giving the space an airy, studio-style feel while still maintaining privacy. Small Eastern-inspired touches throughout the room tie everything together, giving it a serene, soulful atmosphere.

Once the hotel’s old bookkeeper’s room, this serene space blends modern comfort with woodland charm. Soft sage-green walls and forest-inspired décor bring the outdoors in, while a shelf of books invites quiet moments of reading and reflection. Light streams through the windows, calm, tranquil, and thoughtfully designed, The Forest Room is a peaceful retreat just steps from the main hotel.

Just a few steps from the main building, this vibrant room is inspired by the spirit and colors of Frida Kahlo. Bold, playful touches and a striking azure wall—evoking the famous Casa Azul—bring energy and warmth to the space. Once an old bookkeeper’s room, it now celebrates colour, creativity, and comfort, complete with an en-suite bathroom. A cheerful, lively retreat that sparks the imagination.

Lucky number 13! Inspired by Ouma Grieta’s bedroom at the family farm “Paardefontein”, This room brings classic country charm to life. Soft floral patterns, gingham accents, and antique wooden touches create a cozy, timeless atmosphere that feels like stepping into a cherished memory. Once the old bank, the room now offers modern comfort with an en-suite bathroom, and its location next to the museum, gift shop and restaurant, adds convenience. A welcoming, character-filled retreat full of warmth and nostalgia.
